EXPLORING REALITY: Living Dialogue with the Four Truths, Part II
In this year's City Retreats, we will focus on how to develop experiential knowledge of the Dharma through the Buddha's seminal teachings. Using the Four Truths as the basis, we will deepen our integrative practice of listening, contemplating, and meditating.
This highly individualized approach encourages us to bring our own personal experiences to Dharma practice, while remaining true to fundamental techniques of the Buddha. These methods, first taught in the Pali suttas, have served as the crucible for cultivating precise knowledge in Tibetan Buddhism for over a thousand years.
In this year's first City Retreat, we explored the first two of the Four Truths, the Buddha's exquisitely concise encapsulation of samsara, the cycle of existence. This second City Retreat focuses on the second two of the Four Truths, which explain the process of liberation. Looking at this essential teaching through a fresh lens incorporating language, experience, and insight opens a personal dialogue with the Buddha that is ripe with transformative potential.
As a city retreat, the weekends will incorporate both dharma teachings with discussions and group meditation periods, as well as recommended individual practice sessions. Participants are encouraged to take the period of the retreat to unplug from the distractions and busyness which often predominate, and use the opportunity to listen, contemplate, and meditate, both on and off the cushion.
